APGA Awards

2024 APGA Awards submissions are still being accepted for the Communications & Marketing Award through May 24! Each year APGA presents awards to recognize individuals within our organization who have gone above and beyond to represent the interests of APGA and public gas. The 2024 Awards will be presented at the Annual Conference in Traverse City, MI, in July.

Below are descriptions of each award along with a link to apply and view past winners.

Communications & Marketing Award

The Communications & Marketing Award is an annual award to recognize APGA public natural gas systems who have worked hard to market natural gas this past year. Systems of all sizes are encouraged to submit their innovative and successful marketing programs, branding initiatives or customer service campaigns for consideration and recognition.

Community Service Award

Recognizes an APGA public gas system member for the accomplishments of the gas system and its employees in improving and enhancing the quality of life of the community it serves.

Distinguished Service Award

Recipient has made substantial contributions to the public gas industry, maintains an unusual devotion to duty, exemplifies the highest ideals and finest traditions in the management of publicly owned natural gas systems, and has made contributions to the betterment of the community. Nominee holds a management position with an APGA public gas system member and has been active in APGA for at least five years.

Excellence in Environmental Stewardship Award

This award recognizes an APGA public gas system member that demonstrates excellence in their commitment to environmental stewardship.

Harry M. Cooke Personal Service Award

Recipient has made substantial contributions toward the goals of APGA and the natural gas industry. Nominee is not an employee of an APGA public gas system member.

J. Hardie Johnston Service Recognition

Individuals who are retiring after serving 25 years in the gas service business and have participated as an APGA member system or joint action agency representative.

Next Generation Employee Achievement Award 

Two recipients each year will be a field worker and a professional from APGA member companies. Recipients are 35 years and younger and have made substantial contributions toward the goals of their utility, APGA, and the natural gas industry.

Personal Achievement Award

Recipient has made substantial contributions toward the goals of APGA and the natural gas industry. Nominee is an employee of an APGA public gas system member.

Public Gas System Achievement Award

Recipient is an APGA public gas system member whose performance is widely recognized in the public gas industry, has made substantial contributions to the community, other utilities and the goals of APGA. The system has expressed a willingness to exchange ideas and technology with others to ensure the gas industry will be the safest and most knowledgeable of all utilities. The system has been an active member of APGA for at least five years.

Recipient is an APGA member system employee(s) whose service to the community goes above and beyond their job duties by positively impacting lives during an emergency.

Safety Management Excellence Award

This award is given to an APGA member system that consistently operates at the highest safety levels, and demonstrated a dedication to implementing impactful employee safety programs. The winning system will have clearly demonstrated themselves as an achiever of excellence in the field of Safety Management.

Safety Contest Award

All APGA members are eligible to enter the APGA Safety Contest which determines winners based on the systems' overall incident (lost work time) rate.

System Operational Achievement Recognition (SOAR) Program

APGA's public gas system members take great pride in their ability to deliver natural gas safely and efficiently to over 5 million customers in 38 states. APGA is pleased to announce the System Operational Achievement Recognition (SOAR) to recognize those public gas systems that have achieved excellence in the operation of their natural gas utility. This award is open for applications on January 1 every year and closes the first week of March.
