By Sydney Novoa posted 2 days ago

This week, APGA staff participated in a panel at the Southern Gas Association’s 2024 Operations Conference. The panel focused on the upcoming release of the 2024 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC), including an overview and the overall impact on the gas industry.

The panel discussed the code development process of the 2024 IECC, the 2024 appeals process, the complexities of the 2024 IECC, and the need for involvement in future IECC development from the natural gas industry. APGA staff covered the importance of building energy codes, the 2024 IECC appeals process, the appeals, provisions that were successfully appealed, recommendations concerning the IECC standards development process, and the recent opening of public comment on the 2027 Scope and Intent Draft based on feedback received on the 2024 appeals process.

As we approach the development of the 2027 IECC, engagement from members of the natural gas industry is vital. Comments on the 2027 Scope and Intent Draft are due August 19th and will be accepted through the following form. Following consideration of comments, the International Code Council (ICC) Board of Directors will set the final scope and intent statements for the 2027 IECC.

Serving on the IECC Consensus Committee is another opportunity to get involved in the standards development process. ICC is accepting applications for IECC Consensus Committee membership for the 2027 code development cycle (Commercial and Residential).  Applications will be accepted until August 19 and can be accessed here.
